All it took for then

In a failing attempt to sort my sister's stuff out...lol...I shall talk about this

Yesterday, as I bussed home from the interchange, a toddler came on board.
Great, I thought, just as I was appreciating the empty, peaceful atmosphere to clear my thoughts (rather, sort it out).
Her height barely past my knees, so I assume she is a few months more than a year old.

I cannot stand it when parents leave their children wailing in a bus, I would alight immediately but it would waste my 45cents.
Why should I for a bloody damn kid?

The first thing I noticed about this girl is, she was with her grandmother, and a mother who does not look like she is capable of being one.
Great.

Then, the grandmother was busy asking the girl to sit, because like any other kid, she was naturally fidgeting.

But I thank God I went on to look at the girl.
She looks so perfect in so many ways.
I tried and tried to find something wrong with the kid
(yes, even kids are not safe from my pessimism)
but to no avail.

With slightly chubby cheeks,
large eyes,
cream-mocha skin tone,
short bob for hair,
and a cute button nose.
She is Malay.

Some might say,
she has that Dora-like cuteness about her,
but I think so much more.

She was fidgeting before she fixed her eyes on me.
Maybe because I was giving her my standard cold stare.I cannot help it, people, that I look arrogant/unfriendly/cold/serious, too serious.
I just do.
I blame my mum, lol.
In my defense, I was getting ready for a wail from her before I,
considering my mood at that point in time, screamed at her small face.

But then, she didn't shift her gaze,
and then I realised how cute she was.
And she was not like any other toddler I have encountered.

Unknowingly my face relaxed and no sooner it turned into a smile.
The girl smiled back.
& just smiled and smiled and smiled.

She is so cute, and her reaction startled me such that I gave off a soft laughter.
Then the ice broke and I decided she deserved some friendliness from me.
She told her mother and grandmother "kakak" (sister) and pointed towards me.
I just smiled.
& she just amused me in so many ways,
without even having to inch no closer,
or to utter anymore words.

Then through the window behind her I saw a Golden Retriever.
I gestured to her with my eyes.
Naturally, she climbed on the seat,
turned around with much protests from her mum and grandmother.

In my heart I was hoping they did not and that she moved a little faster.
She was missing the dog!
But alas, she caught a glimpse of it.
Immediately she said "DOG"
I was so glad!
For some unknown reason.

But then along came my stop.
As I walked past her,
her mum asked her to wave me goodbye and she gave me a flying kiss.
I wish I could have hugged and squeezed her cheeks.
Even as the bus drove past,
she looked through the window.

Funny how all it took was for this little girl to change my day back right up.

I hope she leads a perfect life.
I really do.
